Want a versatile boyfriend? Head to Europe for the biggest selection

Queerguru’s Editor keeps insisting that in his next life he is coming back as a researcher. A sex researcher, to be more precise.  He’s just revived the idea after a new report has just landed in our in-tray. It’s about the latest findings by researchers who went through 141,156 gay dating profiles from around the world,  What did they discover?   Well, the map they came back with is going to start arguments:Europe leans versatile, the Americas lean bottom.

This very official study was published in The Journal of Sex Research by a team at Oxford and Manchester based on data from Surge, a gay dating app that started in 2015 and now claims some  8.5 million users worldwide. Their results support thatVersatile came out on top in Europe and Oceania and  Bottom was the most common answer across the Americas and Africa.

But wait, there’s the age factor too that affects the findings. For example, younger men were the most keen to take part in the survey, and also they were more likely to say bottom or versatile. Whereas older men, not totally unexpected, skewed top. However, what totally effected this survey was the sheer number of men who opted to leave the field blank entirely, although gay men in Europe and Asia were far more likely to fill it in than men in the Americas or Africa.
