Twitter restricts Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene’s account over “Trans Day of Vengence” image

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) says that Twitter restricted her congressional account for seven days after she repeatedly tweeted about an event called the “Trans Day of Vengeance.”

Her tweet echoed her previous transphobic comments regarding the suspected Nashville school shooter, Audrey Hale, who was reportedly transgender.

Greene and other conservatives had re-posted an image advertising a gathering called the “Trans Day of Vengeance.” The event, organized by the Trans Radical Activist Network (TRAN), will begin this Friday — a day marking the annual Transgender Day of Visibility — in front of the Supreme Court. The event’s promotional image contained the words, “Stop trans genocide.”

“The Trans/Non-Binary/Gender Non-Conforming/Intersex communities are facing astronomical amounts of hate from the world,” the TRAN website’s event listing states. “Our community is frightened. Some have been experiencing mental health crisis’ due to the political climate in our country…. This cycle of hate needs to end. In fact it must. Allies, siblings we need you now more than ever.”

Twitter reportedly removed Greene’s tweets containing the event’s promotional image.

“My Congressional account was suspended for 7 days for exposing Antifa, who are organizing a call for violence called ‘Trans Day of Vengeance,’” Greene wrote, even though there’s no public evidence that anti-fascist activists are in any way involved in the event.

“A day after a mass murder of children by a trans shooter? The people need to know about the threat they face from Antifa & trans-terrorism!!!” Greene wrote in another tweet, echoing far-right claims that armed trans people are dangerous, even though the vast majority of murderers are cisgender.

In a tweet referencing the image’s removal, Twitter’s Vice President of Trust and Safety Ella G. Irwin wrote, “We had to automatically sweep our platform and remove [over] 5000 tweets /retweets of this poster.”

“We do not support tweets that incite violence irrespective of who posts them,” Irwin added. “‘Vengeance’ does not imply peaceful protest. Organizing or support for peaceful protests is ok.”

Irwin wrote that no “strikes” had been issued against anyone who had reposted the image. However, Greene called this a “lie” and posted an image showing that Twitter had restricted her account after she re-posted the image.
