Gov. Ron DeSantis attacked former Gov. Nikki Haley for supporting LGBTQ+ rights in what way at the fourth GOP debate this week?

Haley accused DeSantis of misrepresenting her record, replying, “I said that if you have to be 18 to get a tattoo, you should have to be 18 to have anything done to change your gender.”

None of the Republican candidates for president have articulated any way that they would actually help transgender people nad have instead battled over who is the most anti-trans.

DeSantis had been asked about a previous claim that he would send troops to use deadly force against anyone smuggling drugs over the Southern border. In his response, he brought up his time serving in Iraq.

“When I was in Iraq, the Al Qaeda wasn’t wearing a uniform. You’d see anyone walking down the street, they all had man dresses on. You didn’t know if they had a bomb, an IED, attached or not,” he said.

Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers (D) vetoed a ban on gender-affirming care for minors passed by Republicans in his state's legislature.

“I object to restricting physicians from providing evidence-based and medically appropriate care to their patients, restricting parents from making medical decisions with physicians to ensure their kids receive the healthcare they need, and preventing patients from receiving that basic, life-saving care,” Evers wrote in his veto message.

Chaos has ensued as the woman who accused Christian Ziegler of rape told investigators that she and both of the Zieglers had planned a sexual encounter for October 2. But when Bridget Ziegler was no longer available, the woman canceled. She then alleges that Christian Ziegler showed up at her apartment and sexually assaulted her.

Bridget Ziegler has since admitted to detectives that she, her husband, and her husband’s accuser were involved in a consensual sexual encounter over a year ago. Both right-wing leaders are facing pressure to resign from their leadership roles.  

Anti-trans activist Riley Gaines snapped at Rep. Summer Lee (D-PA). What did she call Rep. Lee?

At a hearing about transgender students' participation in school sports, Lee said in her opening statement that she was worried that she would "be forced to listen to transphobic bigotry." She didn't name anyone in particular.

Russia's supreme court recently ruled that the LGBTQ+ equality movement is an "extremist" organization, meaning that it's illegal to publicly advocate for LGBTQ+ rights in the country now.

The show does have two female ponies living together in its final season and one of the main characters, Rainbow Dash, has a rainbow mane.

The 101-year-old TV pioneering died this week. But several of his iconic sitcoms featured compassionate queer characters at times when such depictions were rare on television.

 

All in the Family featured a gay football player and a semi-recurring drag queen character, Hot l Baltimore is credited for introducing the first gay couple on American network TV, and the 2017 remake of One Day at a Time featured a teenage lesbian and nonbinary couple.
