A trans teenager has reportedly been left with a fractured skull and two other people have been hospitalised in a terrifying attack after Dublin Pride celebrations.

Five queer people in total were allegedly attacked at St Stephen’s Green on Saturday (25 June) after the city’s Pride event.

Three were hospitalised, including a 19-year-old trans man who was reportedly left with a “fractured scull and abnormalities in the brain”.

A friend of the group reportedly got in touch with politician Aodhán Ó Ríordáin, raising the alarm on the attack.

“Just messaging you on behalf of some LGBTQ+ friends. They don’t want to be identified but Saturday, after Pride, five of them were attacked at 6:50pm in Stephen’s Green,” a message shared Ríordáin to Twitter read,

“Three of them were hospitalised. One of them (age 19, trans-man) is currently still in hospital with a fractured skull and abnormalities showing on their brain.

“They just want to let people know that for all the happy and colourful stuff that happens at Pride, these attacks are going on in the background. I offered to pass this information on.”

This message was sent to me today from someone whose friends were attacked after Pride on Saturday.

We cannot be complacent.

A Garda spokesman said in a statement to Dublin Live: “Gardaí attended at the scene of a public order incident at Saint Stephens Green, Dublin 2 shortly before 7pm on 25 June, 2022.

“No arrests were made at the scene. Enquires into the matter are ongoing including number of allegations of assault arising from the incident.”

It’s the latest anti-LGBTQ+ attack in Ireland, coming two months after two gay men were found murdered in their own homes in April, just a kilometre apart from each other in County Sligo.

Yousef Palani has been charged with murdering both men and assaulting another. Police believe that the suspect was planning further attacks on LGBTQ+ people in Sligo, in the north of Ireland, with the crimes sending shockwaves of fear through the community.
