Trans Jeopardy! champ Amy Schneider shares romantic details of her recent engagement

It seemed like just another Tuesday when transgender Jeopardy! champion Amy Schneider’s girlfriend Genevieve Davis invited some of their friends over for some happy hour drinks after work.

“I didn’t really think anything of it,” Schneider recently told KGO-TV. “I was like, ‘I’ve got a lot going on.'”

During the happy hour, Schneider left to go into another room for a little bit. When she returned to the living room, what happened next would change her life forever.

“I came out and she was on one knee,” Schneider said of Davis. “Her friends had brought balloons that they had hidden and one of them was filming it. It completely shocked me in the moment.”

Though Schneider said yes, she also told Davis that she wanted to propose to her as well. Naturally, Davis also accepted her proposal.

“I couldn’t be happier or more proud to be marrying the very best person in the entire world,” Schneider said, “and I’m so glad to be sharing my life with her. It’s great to be able to introduce her to people as ‘Genevieve, my fiancée.'”

Schneider shared news of her engagement last month. But this month, she also shared more details about how they met.

“In the summer of 2020, my friend was hanging out at my apartment, talking on the phone to her boyfriend, and somehow or other she wound up inviting her boyfriend’s sister over to my place, to give her a ride somewhere. That sister turned out to be Genevieve.”

“Now, I’d never really believed in ‘love at first sight,'” she continued, “and maybe I’m just retroactively projecting my feelings back onto that encounter, but I swear I knew when she walked in the door that she was going to be in my life for a long time.”

“For various reasons, we didn’t actually start dating until February 2021, but that time as friends was really valuable, and we both think we have a long future together. Finally, in March, we completed our family when we adopted a cat, Meep.”

Schneider has achieved national fame by winning a 40-game streak in the classic trivia TV game. Her streak made her the second-most winning Jeopardy! contestant of all-time and the highest-earning woman ever to compete, winning $1,382,800.

She’ll likely compete in the Jeopardy! Tournament of Champions this fall.
