The viral Unofficial Bridgerton Musical created on TikTok has just won a Grammy, and not even Lady Whistledown herself could have seen this one coming.

Creators Emily Bear and Abigail Barlow wowed Bridgerton fans – and the rest of the internet – when they reimagined the smash hit Netflix series as a musical in January 2021.

As they shared The Unofficial Bridgerton Musical part by part on TikTok, it blew up – all clips across the platform with the hashtag #bridgertonmusical currently have almost 273 million views combined.

By September, they thrilled fans and released a full 15-song album that features original tracks such as “Burn For You”, “Daphne’s Song” and “Ocean Away”.

Sunday (3 April) night saw the Unofficial Bridgerton Musical duo beat out celebrated composers such as Andrew Lloyd Webber, Burt Bacharach, and Stephen Schwartz to win the Best Musical Theater Album.

The delighted pair ran onstage to accept their award as Barlow stated: “A year ago when I asked the internet ‘What if Bridgerton was a musical?’ I could not have imagined we would be holding a Grammy in our hands”.

“We wanna thank everyone on the internet who has watched us create this album from the ground up — we share this with you.”

Bear added: “You are just as much a part of this project as we are. I just have to say, this is really for all of my fellow female producers, composers, engineers, that are still struggling to gain recognition and support for what we do. It’s not that we don’t exist — we do.”

Elsewhere on the night, Jon Batiste’s We Are won album of the year, while Silk Sonic’s “Leave The Door Open” won Record and Song of the Year.

Olivia Rodrigo won Best New Artist and Best Pop Album for Sour.

One of the biggest surprise of the night was Lil Nas X going home empty handed, despite being nominated for five awards.

Controversially, Louis CK won the Grammy for Best Comedy Album. Many have criticised the Grammys for nominating him despite the fact that he has admitted to sexual misconduct.
