Thor: Love and Thunder trailer is here and fans think it’s super queer

Marvel has dropped the first trailer for Thor: Love and Thunder, and fans are already thrilled with the queer moments in the film.

The film is the follow-up to Taika Waititi’s Thor: Ragnarok with Chris Hemsworth once again taking on the role of the hunky titular superhero.

Tessa Thompson will once again play the swoon-worthy warrior Valkyrie, and Natalie Portman will be returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) as Mighty Thor.

The trailer, which was released on Monday (18 April), sees Thor living a seemingly peaceful life, even meditating on a hill. Thor comes to a realisation that he needs “choose my own path” in order to figure out “exactly who I am”.

“My superhero-ing days are over,” Thor declares.

But his retirement is soon interrupted when the supervillain Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale) arrives on the scene, according to the film’s official synopsis. So Thor seeks the help of the king of New Asgard, Valkyrie, Korg (Waititi) and the Guardians of the Galaxy to defeat this new foe.

Valkyrie is seen at one point in the new trailer decked out in a gorgeous suit as she’s seemingly bored over her new duties as the leader of the thriving civilisation.

Thor approaches Star-Lord AKA Peter Quill (Chris Pratt) and the rest of the Guardians of the Galaxy, and the hero offers some meaningful advice to the Asgardian.

“If you ever feel lost, just look into the eyes of the people that you love,” Quill says.

Thor then moves his head into Quill’s line of sight, hoping that the loving words are directed at him. But Quill shuts him down, saying: “Not me.”

“What? Just listening,” Thor bashfully replies, looking off into the distance awkwardly.

At the end of the trailer, fans also got their first glimpse of Thor’s ex-girlfriend Jane Foster (Portman) who – to Thor’s shock – can wield his magical hammer Mjolnir as the Mighty Thor. Mjolnir was previously shattered by Cate Blanchett’s Hela in Thor: Ragnarok, and only those ‘worthy’ of the hammer can possess its powers.

Needless to say, fans were excited to see all the LGBT+ moments in the new trailer from Thor’s awkward flirtation to thirsting over Valkyrie and Foster.
