This week in LGBTQ Twitter: Clapping back at Marjorie Taylor Greene’s transphobia

This week, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) did her part to keep anti-transgender conspiracy theories alive. She started off by drawing a “line in the sand” suggesting that that anyone who supports transgender women is “pro-pedophile.”

There is a line in the sand.

Either you are Pro-pedophile and Pro-transgender biological men or you defend children and women.

Period.

There is no other option.

And she wrapped up the week by accusing mothers of “mutilating” babies through “transgenderism.” She also suggested that the support for transgender people is contributing to the collapse of American civilization.

Our society is sick. Mothers are mutilating and murdering their babies through transgenderism and abortion. Meanwhile, society sits back and allows men to destroy women’s sports.

But the people of Twitter weren’t having it. Many showed up in the comments to highlight actually child abuse, much of it at the hands of Republicans.

Sen. Chris Murphy got so “sick and tired of transgender kids getting bullied” that he took to the Senate floor to educate and call out the adults targeting them.

As easy as it is to write off Rep. Taylor Green as a distraction, Harvard Law instructor Alejandra Caraballo is urging folks to take her threats seriously. Caraballo pleaded with folks to “stop blowing this off as a side show” and recognize that “[w]hen a sitting congresswoman declares LGBTQ people as an existential threat to the country, it lays the foundation for violence.”

Musician Laura Jane Grace flipped the script on “grooming” rhetoric by pointing out that the existence of transgender adults is proof that children can’t be coerced into being a particular gender.

A trans boy in Alabama started a thread to highlight that he’s just “a normal goddamn kid,” and it really took off.
