The right is freaking out about Miller Lite’s “WOKE advertisement!!!” supporting women

A Miller Lite campaign focused on honoring women’s role in beer-making has upset commentators on the right, who are calling it “woke” and comparing it to Bud Light’s sponsorship of a 50-second Instagram video made by trans influencer Dylan Mulvaney last month.

“Did NOBODY learn from Bud Light’s COSTLY mistake?” far-right Turning Point USA contributor Graham Allen wrote. “Miller Lite just dropped this WOKE advertisement!!! When will these beer companies learn???”

Greene demanded Bud Light apologize for working with LGBTQ+ influencers as she shared the song laden with explicit lyrics.

The ad – which was announced weeks before Mulvaney’s video was posted to Instagram – shows a comedian Ilana Glazer talking about how women played an important role in the history of beer going back to beer-making in ancient Mesopotamia.

On April 1, Mulvaney posted a 50-second video to Instagram showing off some custom Bud Light cans with her face on them. Over the next month, conservatives lost their minds, posting videos as they dumped out Bud Light beer and shot up cases of Bud Light with semiautomatic rifles. Elected Republicans claimed that Mulvaney was a pedophile (without any evidence at all) and that the global balance of power would be upset by Mulvaney’s Instagram video. Others said that they were boycotting Bud Light, often switching to other LGBTQ+-friendly brands.

Many conservatives attacked the Mulvaney/Bud Lite sponsorship on the basis that Mulvaney’s existence as a trans woman is an insult to cisgender women. But now many conservatives are attacking the Miller Lite ad even though it’s a celebration of women and doesn’t mention LGBTQ+ people at all.

Fox News was one of many rightwing publications that ran a story about Miller Lite’s ad, calling it “a liberal ad campaign” from “around the same time period” as the Bud Light/Mulvaney partnership.

Some of the most prominent voices on the right freaked out at the pro-woman ad, including Fox News host Tomi Lahren, Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk, ex-trans influencer Oli London, conservative Twitter personality Benny Johnson, MAGA rapper Forgiato Blow, podcaster Stew Peters, former OANN reporter Liz Wheeler, MAGA influencer Ian Miles Cheong, ACT for America founder Brigitte Gabriel, and conservative convicted felon Dinesh D’Souza, as well as conservative publications like Daily Wire and TheBlaze.

Many did not seem to know that the Miller Lite ad came out first.
