The new LGBTQ+ ARCHIVE will save our queer history that The Orange Man in The White House wants to wipe out

One of the many tragic obsessions of The Orange Man in The White House is to rewrite history:black, gay, trans etc etc. It’s a scary prospect, but then we are learning rapidly that every word he utters is all about making him  the arbiter of how the whole world should be : past, present and future.

After a series of anti-DEI and LGBTQ executive orders, thousands of pages across the federal government have been removed or altered, with LGBTQ topics taking a big hit. We were thrilled then last month when LGBTQ+ Archive, launched by LGBT Tech,  stated that it aims to restore lost resources about the LGBTQ community into a centralized hub.  They have tracked down approximately 1,000 documents—all available as downloadable PDFs and sorted by agency—including important docs related to people’s health — but they know that more are missing. 

The scary part is that all it took was yet another of The Orange Man’s so-called ‘Executive Orders’ to empower his henchmen to take away all this information. Already, it was well known that mainstream archives often erase or misrepresent the LGBTQ community, so this was the final straw.

The Archive Team has spent the last couple of months tracking down documents removed from government websites. Beyond creating a record for the future, the archive is also useful in fighting for LGBTQ representation today.  Shae Gardner, policy director at LGBT, explained that numerous journalists and advocacy groups have already been using it.  Users can submit missing documents or requests for missing documents.
