Philadelphia has joined a growing number of cities and states creating safe haven policies in response to or in anticipation of possible bans being established in their state, as well as to provide protections to those who live in states that ban gender-affirming care but travel to states where it’s legal to receive the treatments they need.

 

Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney (D) signed the executive order, which bans the use of city resources in investigations that would punish anyone seeking gender-affirming care in the city. It also states that if federal or state restrictions are passed regarding gender-affirming care, the city will deprioritize enforcing these laws. Additionally, the order makes gender-affirming care available to people in city jails.

The Daily Wire announced that it is making its own Snow White movie in response to what it has characterized as Disney’s “woke” agenda.

 

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Snow White and the Evil Queen comes amid conservative backlash to Disney’s own upcoming live-action Snow White remake starring Rachel Zegler. Conservative trolls have lobbed “go woke, go broke” criticisms at the entertainment giant for casting the West Side Story actress, whose mother is of Columbian descent, as the titular princess, and for reimagining the fairy tale’s seven dwarves as “magical creatures” of different sizes, races, and genders.

This week, Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer announced the city’s intent to buy the Pulse Nightclub – an LGBTQ+ club where a gunman killed 49 people and wounded 53 others in 2016 – and turn it into a memorial for the victims.

 

“In the interest of solving challenges in a way that brings our community together in love, acceptance, and partnership, which is the enduring legacy of Pulse, we have decided to purchase the land from its current owners,” Dyer said in a statement posted to X. “We believe that this is the best and most appropriate way to expedite the creation of a proper memorial for the Pulse tragedy.”

Prisons in which state are now required to provide gender-affirming care to trans inmates?

A Seattle judge issued a consent decree requiring prisons in Washington state to provide improved gender-affirming services to trans inmates. It came after almost four years of negotiations between the state and advocacy group Disability Rights Washington.

 

The settlement says that the State Department of Corrections (DOC) must hire a designated MD specializing in gender-affirming medical care. Additionally, the department is required to provide a gender-affirming mental health specialist at all major prisons, with access to telehealth for those at smaller ones. Those who enter prison with a prescription for hormone replacement therapy (HRT) must be able to continue, and trans folks who want to begin HRT in prison will generally have access.

India's Supreme Court recently ruled against a critical LGBTQ+ right in the country. What were the plaintiffs fighting for?
