Spice Girls Mel B and Emma Bunton will be entering Netflix reality show The Circle‘s fourth series as catfishes. Yes, seriously.

Announcing their role on the his reality TV show on social media, Scary Spice and Baby Spice said they will be appearing on The Circle in an attempt to trick a new set of players into believing they are someone else.

“When they asked us, no brainer!” the pair, who are reportedly huge fans of the show, said in a teaser trailer.

Brown and Bunton added: “Nobody’s going to know that it’s us, because we’re going in as a catfish… We have absolutely no idea who we’re going to be playing. I’m just dying to know who it’s going to be.”

The pair explained that they have been “lucky enough to travel the world” and “perform in stadiums”, but they hope fans will see a new side of them in The Circle.

“You’ll be watching us 24/7,” Bunton added.

Netflix’s The Circle is an American spin-off of the British show of the same name, which airs on Channel 4. Throughout the series, players chat over instant messenger and rate one another – the lowest-rated gets “blocked” (booted out of the show). At the end, the most popular contestant wins a cash prize.

Mel B and Emma Bunton’s appearance is not the first time celebrities have been used as catfishes or bait on the show, with NSYNC singer Lance Bass catfishing on series two.

var unruly = window.unruly || {}; unruly.native = unruly.native || {}; unruly.native.siteId = 1068722;

In fact, Bass was actually played by his personal assistant of 14 years, Lisa Delcampo, who he said “knows me better than I know myself”.

“I thought it was brilliant,” Bass told  Billboard. “If there’s anyone who would be able to play as me, the only person that could do that is Lisa.”

The Circle‘s fourth series is streaming now on Netflix, with new episodes dropping on 11 May, 18 May, and 25 May.
