Sean Hayes & Keegan-Michael Key played a couple to mock Fox News’s War on Christmas

On last night’s Jimmy Kimmel Live, the late-night host took on conservative media’s annual freak-out over the so-called “War on Christmas” with a little help from Keegan-Michael Key and Sean Hayes.

This year, right-wing commentators have been stoking pointless outrage over two particular items of holiday décor available at Target: a Black Santa Claus in a wheelchair and a queer nutcracker holding a Progress Pride flag—which the retailer has actually sold for years now.

George Santos will say anything for the right price. Now he’s mad at that Jimmy Kimmel paid him to say ridiculous things.

In a recent Fox News segment, host Jesse Watters suggested that by selling the “gay nutcracker,” Target is “sexualizing Christmas for children.” And on Newsmax, Daily Caller’s Chrissy Clark moaned about the ornament: “Let’s be honest, if you’re a gay man and you have any semblance of taste, you do not have a gay pride nutcracker in your house, ok?”

Which, not to agree with a Daily Caller reporter, but… touché!

“Obviously, they’re making a big deal out of nothing,” Kimmel said in Tuesday night’s opening monologue, before throwing to Hayes playing a gay nutcracker “live from the holiday aisle at Kohl’s.”

Hayes joked that he and his fellow gay nutcrackers are more confused than bothered by right-wing media’s manufactured outrage. “First off, ‘gay nutcracker’ is redundant. All nutcrackers are gay,” he said. “We’re a bunch of fit older men with perfect posture wearing bedazzled uniforms and knee-high boots. Open your eyes, you dink!”

Later in the bit, Hayes’s character was joined by his boyfriend, Black Santa in a wheelchair, played by Key. Kimmel asked Key how he ended up in a wheelchair. “I fought in the War on Christmas,” Key replied.

“I think Fox just got 12 more nights of programming out of this,” Kimmel joked.
