Queerguru talks with Jonny Woo & John Sizzle : the iconic duo who have put East London’s queer underground on the map

Jonny Woo and John Sizzle are a charismatic pair who share such a passion and high-octane energy for making East London’s queer underground into such a magnetic bizarre wonderland that they truly deserve the icon status that has been bestowed on them.  Both of them are drag queens, performance artists, DJs. promoters who have been setting the pace for the queer culture in London for a couple of decades now.  With so many traditional LGBTQ+ places having to close down at such frequency nowadays, it’s so refreshing to listen to the pair of them enthuse about all their plans to make the Capital the best place to be for exciting and relevant queer culture.

Queerguru talked to them about their journey together and what they see in their future.  This includes their brand new space THE DIVINE, once again an old pub in the East End, which they have put their magic touches on (our interview was filmed in their basement…. which I can only politely describe as ‘a work in progress‘ ) . The perfomance space above is packed nightly : and full kudos to them both for encouraging so much new and untested talent on their stage. Then soon they are decamping for one night only to the Hackney Empire.…. a glorious Edwardian Music Hall,for a celestial happening featuring the very best of The Divine’s queer performance family in one, great big heavenly variety show.
