Queerguru reviews STOCKADE how one gay immigrant had to break the law to get her US Visa

It would seem a perfect time for this new movie STOCKADE with its story of a Lebanese immigrant in NY trying to get a US Visa, which is such a hot topic in these precarious political times.  However, when it turned into a thriller with some muddled plot lines, it confused us and somewhat diluted our interest. 

It’s the story of Ahlam (Sarah Bitar), a struggling artist who has to take on various odd jobs simply to make things meet and is a crisis point now she has to find money to obtain her visa.  Why she accepts a job delivering a package for the mysterious  Paul (Guy de Lancey) to his home in upstate New York doesn’t make much sense, especially when he suddenly disappears from sight.  And even when we discover he is smuggling antiquities it doesn’t add up at all why he chose Ahlam for the task, and why she has to surreptitiously transport it a relatively short journey .

If you are wondering why the film even came on to Queerguru’s radar, it’s because when she was stuck in the New York  Ahlam bumps into Zora (Bahar Beihaghi) an ex girlfriend and they spend the night together to see if there is any magic left. 

Credit though to Bitar for still managing to shine out of this confusing wee film which seemed like it belonged back in the 1970s
