PORELESS a wee short film about the pressure in life to be calm and flawless screenng at TRIBECA

We first came across filmmaker Harris Dolan two years ago when KOKOMO CITY movie that he produced premiered at OUTshine Miami’s queer Film Fest.  It was the trailblazing debut doc from local filmmaker D Smith and the story of how they got blackballed from the music industry when they started to transition. It was one of those films that are hard to forget, and more so in this instance, even harder as the week before, one of the ‘stars’ of the film 35-year-old Koko Da Doll was tragically murdered in Atlanta, becoming the latest victim of violence against Black transgender women. Amongst the Awards the film collected were from Sundance, the Berlinale, and GLAAD.

For this new short film Dolan has teamed up with filmmaker/actor Fawzia Mirza to make PORELESS a cute and funny film that packs its own message.  It follows Akram (producer and star Akbar Hamud) who is a queer Muslin beauty founder whose brand s finally about to have its big break.  However, when he uses the product, his face breaks out into a very nasty-looking rash, and now it looks like this will blow his chances when he has to make a presentation.  He is now under pressure to stay calm and be flawless…. which I guess we have all had to do in our own way
