Pink claps back to troll who compared her to trans comedian Suzy Izzard

Pop singer and LGBTQ+ ally Pink responded strongly to a Twitter troll who said she looks like transgender and genderfluid comedian-turned-politician Suzy Izzard.

On Monday, a self-described Twitter “sh*tposter” @luvglubglub posted an image of Izzard along with the caption “Happy birthday @pink.” Pink’s birthday was on September 8.

Pink quoted the user’s tweet and responded, “Thank you so much. I just showed my 12 year old daughter your post. I explained to her that I’ve never met you, I don’t know you, and I have no idea why you would go out of your way to be hateful. It was a good lesson in ignorance. Thank you. I still don’t know you. Congrats. You’re no one.”

In a follow-up tweet, Pink wrote, “MOST IMPORTANTLY -what a wasted opportunity here. There are so many pictures you could’ve chosen that were actually me that were worse than this picture, you nameless f**ko. At least be creative next time dum dum.”

In yet another follow-up tweet, Pink wrote, “I post these things to show the kids I know- my own kids as well, that we are all occasionally treated badly. I show them because they know me, and they know that my self-esteem does Not rely on the opinions of others. Nor does it rely on how many tickets I sell. Good/bad. Whatever. I love Me. Now I shall Sleep really really Well. Night night [blue heart emoji].”

While @luvglubglub likely intended disrespect by comparing the cisgender female singer to the genderfluid politician, several commenters noted that there’s nothing wrong with being compared to a trans individual, especially an accomplished, outspoken, and stylish award-winning comedian like Izzard.

Izzard has run numerous charity marathons and participated in benefits raising money for disabled and sick people and other humanitarian causes.

Pink has long been an LGBTQ+ ally who has sported an androgynous “butch” short-hair style. Her 2006 song Dear Mr. President, which featured the lesbian folk-rock duo the Indigo Girls, criticized the anti-gay politics of then-President George W. Bush and included the lyric, “What kind of father might hate his own daughter if she were gay?”

In 2010, the Human Rights Campaign awarded her the Ally for Equality Award. Her 2010 music video for her song Raise Your Glass included a scene celebrating a same-sex marriage. At the time, same-sex marriage was still not legally recognized nationwide.

In her speech at the 2017 MTV Video Music Awards, Pink said, “When people make fun of me… They say I look like a boy or I’m too masculine or I have too many opinions, my body is too strong…. [But] we don’t change. We take the gravel and the shell and we make a pearl. And we help other people to change so they can see more kinds of beauty.”
