‘On the 20th Anniversary of the ground breaking queer black TV show ‘NOAH’S ARC : they are back with a new movie
Its the 20th Anniversary of the groundbreaking TV series Noah’s Arc, and so the whole gang … creators and stars …. are back wth a brand new movie. Up until its arrival on our screens all those years ago queer TV had been oh so very white. The original one-hour pilot created by Patrik-Ian Polk was produced independently and released as a web series in 2004, and was so well received, the series was picked up by Logo TV as a half-hour series. The pilot, “My One Temptation”, was rewritten and re-shot as a two-part premiere episode, and Noah’s Arc became LOGO’s first scripted series.
Noah’s Arc follows the lives and relationships of four black gay men in Los Angeles: Noah (Darryl Stephens) is a struggling screenwriter who has started a relationship with Wade (Jensen Atwood) who recently came out. Despite his friends’ warnings about being romantically involved with Wade, Noah intends to make it work, regardless of what it takes. His friends include HIV educator Alex (Rodney Chester), who acts as the parental figure for the group and is in a long-term romantic union; promiscuous clothing store owner Ricky (Christian Vincent) who shuns traditional dating; and college professor Chance (Doug Spearman), who is beginning a domestic life with boyfriend Eddie (Jonathan Julian) and stepdaughter Kenya(Sahara Davis)
By season two, Noah and Wade’s intimate relationship ends with Noah having a new boyfriend and moving into new home. Alex opens his own HIV clinic with the help of his friends. Ricky enters into a brief relationship with a doctor who is HIV positive but Ricky has his reservations about being intimate. Chance is now a married man who is adapting to married life.
On July 5, 2020, nearly fourteen years after the show ended, the cast reunited for Noah’s Arc: The ‘Rona Chronicles, an hour-long special aired on YouTube and Facebook. Produced during and based around the COVID-19 pandemic, The ‘Rona Chronicles was produced as a virtual reunion, with the actors (and therefore their characters) interacting virtually via Skype. The reunion, which benefited charity, was followed by a live Q&A moderated by Queer Eye‘s Karamo Brown.
Now fans and new audiences will reunite with the beloved chosen family following the events of 2020’s Noah’s Arc: The ‘Rona Chronicles special. In this next installment, Noah and Wade are expecting twins and must shift gears when each is offered their dream job, forcing one of them to assume the traditional stay-at-home parental role… only which one? What gift can life give the man who has everything? The answer is drama, and tons of it … along with shocking plot-twists, laugh-out-loud comedy and thrilling displays of dizzying, intoxicating and heart-lifting romance.
Produced by MTV Entertainment Studios and Pop Films, the movie debuts Friday, June 20 on streaming and on demand for Paramount+ subscribers with the Paramount+ with SHOWTIME plan before its on-air debut on the same day at 9 p.m. ET/PT.
