More people believe in ghosts than in George Santos

Scandal-ridden out Rep. George Santos (R-NY) has been deeply unpopular nationwide, with members of both parties regularly castigating the freshman congressman for his multiple lies, faked background, and confessed check fraud. But in his district, he’s even more despised.

Only 7% have a favorable rating of Santos and believe in his ability to do the job. 41% of Americans believe in ghosts – and since 29 percent think a spirit has touched them, the spiritual spooks are doing a better job.

Recently unearthed eviction court recordings reveal Santos has always been a liar.

But Santos’ abysmal polling numbers are also lower than several other fringe beliefs and conspiracy theories.

LGBTQ Nation Get the Daily Brief The news you care about, reported on by the people who care about you.

Ten percent of Americans believe the Earth is flat. Twelve percent think the government faked the moon landing. And a whopping 43 percent of Americans believe demons exist.

But at least Santos ranks with the Great Pyramids of Egypt. Seven percent of Americans believe they were definitely or probably built by aliens.

With Santos’ history of making up incredible fantasies about his life, is it any surprise that he polls near some of the most outlandish tales floating around the country?

“My first memory is from when I was three or four. We lived on an army base in Texas. I don’t remember much about living there or the house, but I remember when I would go to bed at night and my parents left the room, the door would close (by itself) and something would just start laughing and tickling me. I called it the Tickle Monster. My parents would come running into my room and turn the lights on; then it would stop. My parents thought I was just having nightmares, but this happened quite often. Once we moved, I never got a visit from the Tickle Monster again,” Marie Hurley, a funeral home administrative assistant, said last year.

With Santos’ miserable polling numbers, chances are high that voters won’t have to see him again after the next election.
