Moms for Liberty co-founder finally speaks about her threesomes with women

After weeks of silence, Bridget Ziegler, co-founder of the anti-LGBTQ+ hate group Moms for Liberty, finally mentioned the bisexual sex scandal plaguing her and her Republican husband. She made her comments at a Tuesday evening Sarasota County School Board meeting after hours of public comments from people criticizing her hypocrisy, some of whom had their microphones cut by meeting moderators for “disrespect,” The Daily Beast wrote.

“Much of the conversations that have come up in public comment I will never address in these chambers, as it has nothing to do with my role as a board member,” Ziegler said near the end of the three-hour meeting. “There is a lot of intentional conjecture and taking things out of context. I have taken a lot of arrows. I know my colleagues have as well. It is not comfortable.”

I feel a bit sorry for you. You are a victim of your own design.

“I know there is a current hot-button issue,” she said, alluding to the scandal which came to light last December. “But I know there have been many prior to December, and those emotions run high and so it makes it very challenging to navigate [maintaining decorum at the meeting while also allowing people to speak].”

Ziegler then mentioned a March 2023 incident in which Ziegler, who served as board chair, allowed a woman to continue speaking after baselessly calling out gay board member Tom Edwards a “groomer.” Edwards walked out of that meeting in response to the woman’s comments and Ziegler’s inaction, he told the aforementioned publication.

“I do believe [comments] specific to sexual orientation and what have you, has no place in comments up here — personal lives, families, all of those,” Ziegler continued. “But I also accept the fact that, as elected officials, we open ourselves up to incredible criticism, but as an individual, I absolutely reject that.”

“There’s a lot of hyperbole and rhetoric out there in the paper or on social media,” she added. “I don’t want anyone to be fearful, I don’t want anyone in our district to feel that we are providing anything other than a fair, safe, and tolerant environment for every single person to learn … and work. As you can hear, there’s a lot of people who believe that’s not the case.”

She concluded by saying, “I do look forward to our continued progress.”

Late last year, Ziegler admitted to having threesomes with her husband, who was chairman of the state Republican party at the time, and a woman who later accused him of rape in Ziegler’s absence. Ziegler was widely criticized since the organization she co-founded, Moms for Liberty, opposes LGBTQ+ content and inclusive policies in public schools.

Students, parents, and community members have called for her to resign from the school board. One local youth activist, Zander Moricz, told her during a board meeting, “[You] change our district lines for political gain, remove books from schools, target trans and queer children, erase Black history, and elevate your political career – all while sending your children to private schools because you don’t believe in the public school system that you’ve been leading.”

“Bridget, you deserve to be fired from your job because you are terrible at your job, not because you had sex with a woman,” Moricz added.

The board itself voted unanimously in favor of her resignation last December, but she refused as the vote was non-binding. However, she has resigned from her role as director of the School Board Leadership Program at the Leadership Institute, an organization that trains conservative activists.

A recent editorial by the Miami Herald Editorial Board acknowledges that Ziegler is “a dangerous hypocrite” but says hypocrisy is not a “disqualifier” from holding office.
