Miami’s OUTshine LGBTQ+ Film Festival + U.M. LGBTQ Student Center : a night of queer storytelling, creativity, and connection.

 

We love the fact the Miami’s OUTshine LGBTQ+ Film Festival is always keen to support future generations of filmmakers.  So on Friday 7th February in partnership UM LGBTQ Student Center and Cosford Cinema. They are presenting a night of queer storytelling.  AND ITS FREE!

They will be screening incredible short films by student filmmakers and UM faculty including :

 

LUCAS
Pablo Velho, 14 minutes, USA
This short drama film is about Lucas who is struggling to pay for his hormonal treatment while figuring out how to heal from obstacles imposed by a sexual predator. Lucas speaks about inequality and unacceptance towards transgender and the importance of mental health.

Pablo Velho is a Brazilian-American director whose career encompasses film and television, with a reputation for transformative storytelling. His journey began in Brazil, where he gained prominence as a casting director for TV commercials, working with high-profile clients such as Pfizer, Yakult, Coca-Cola, and Renault. His exceptional talent for identifying and showcasing diverse talent laid a strong foundation for his subsequent transition into directing. In addition to his directorial achievements, Pablo also has been working as a 1st Assistant Director and casting director. His extensive experience spans feature films, short films, TV commercials, TV shows, music videos, and creative content.

 

 

 

DOUBLE LIFE
Mellie Parks and Trinity Byonie, 5 minutes, USA
Max, a 22 year old man leads a double life; working in the hypermasculine corporate world in one life yet performing as a drag queen in another, realizing the duality of both existences.

TRINITY BYONIE: is an aspiring filmmaker and creative originally from Atlanta Georgia. Trinity Byonie goes to school at the University of Miami where she majors in Motion Pictures: Production, specializing in post-production. All things diversity inspire and motivate me. I am driven by the potential and opportunity to unveil the stories of marginalized communities and identities.

 

 

AZULEJOS

Maria Paula Arboleda, 19 minutes, USA. In Spanish with English subtitles

A young woman, Daniela, visits her grandmother to tell her some important news.

Maria Paula Arboleda is an up-and-coming producer, director, and writer from Colombia. She currently teaches an Introduction to Screenwriting class at the University of Miami while completing the post-production of her thesis short film, Impasto. She has produced, directed, and written various short films such as Tacet, Azulejos and Constellations that have been selected for and awarded at prestigious festivals, including the Miami Film Festival, Key West Film Festival, HollyShorts, and the Next Generation Film Awards in LA.
