Marjorie Taylor Greene rages at media for not buying the bizarre “Pelosi gay lover” story

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) is outraged that anyone would even question the latest rightwing conspiracy theory about House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s (D-CA) husband having a secret gay lover who tried to kill him.

On Friday, a man broke into the Pelosis’ home and asked, “Where’s Nancy?” She wasn’t there, but her husband Paul Pelosi was. The man hit Paul with a hammer and he has been hospitalized.

While the man who was arrested in connection to the attack – David DePape – was “immersed” in rightwing conspiracy theories online, according to Politico, many on the right have created an entirely fictional narrative that DePape and Paul Pelosi were actually lovers and had gotten into a drunken fight.

Twitter CEO Elon Musk suggested that the bizarre story was true, tweeting at former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton a link to an article from a conservative website called the Santa Monica Observer. That same website claimed that Clinton was dead and had been replaced by a body double at her debates against Donald Trump in 2016.

Musk later deleted the tweet, but people on the platform called him out for spreading the misinformation in the first place and for not apologizing or tweeting a correction so that his millions of followers wouldn’t believe a baseless story that amounted to blaming the attack on San Francisco’s LGBTQ community.

The suggestion that Musk did anything wrong by spreading misinformation set Greene off.

“The same mainstream media democrat activists that sold conspiracy theories for years about President Trump and Russia are now blaming Elon Musk for ‘internet misinformation’ about Paul Pelosi’s friend attacking him with a hammer,” she said, referring to DePape as Paul Pelosi’s “friend” even though there is no reason to believe that they had a prior relationship.

“The media is source of misinformation.”
