Marjorie Taylor Greene has a “goldfish” mind: Conservative commentator viciously mocks her

Jonah Goldberg is one of the bigger names in conservative media. He was the founding editor of the National Review Online starting in 1998, the founding editor of The Dispatch, and a columnist for the LA Times. He is one of a growing number of conservatives who have had it with the anti-LGBTQ+ Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA).

Appearing on a panel discussion on CNN, Goldberg discussed Greene’s attempt to oust Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA), a result of Johnson working with Democrats to pass a bill to fund the federal government.

She wants to chaotically kick out the Speaker just seven months before the general election.

Goldberg pointed out that the only House Republicans who want to remove Johnson from the speakership while Republicans have a razor-thin majority in the House are Greene and Reps. Paul Gosar (R-AZ) and Thomas Massie (R-KY), all far-right extremists.

“I think that’s one of the reasons other Republicans don’t want to join, because who wants to be the fourth on that weird Mt. Rushmore of criminality and weirdness,” he said, clarifying that he meant “grossness” instead of “criminality.”

Goldberg pointed out that Donald Trump spoke out in favor of Johnson yesterday. “I think he’s trying very hard,” Trump said of Johnson. Goldberg said that Trump only spoke out because he’s “worried that Republicans might make him look bad.”

CNN contributor Lulu Garcia-Navarro asked what Greene’s plan is to move forward on her resolution to remove Johnson from the speakership.

“She is now seen as obstructive, she is seen as a problem for Trump,” Garcia-Navarro said. “And that ultimately puts her position in the party in peril.”

“No one ever accused her of being a four-dimensional chess player,” Goldberg said dryly. “She has goldfish memory and lives in the moment and she’s just a creature of the Internet Age.”

Greene has drawn ire from fellow Republicans ever since she filed a motion to vacate Johnson, something that she could force a vote on. Since Democrats never vote for a Republican speaker (and vice versa), she would only need to find another Republican to vote against Johnson to remove him from the speakership, although it seems likely that she would face the wrath of her party if she did so.

Just last week, Fox News columnist Liz Peek denounced Greene’s “drama queen energy” and “self-serving showmanship.” In the headline of her column, she called Greene “an idiot.”

“The internal squabbles of the party need to stop,” she said. “If Marjorie Taylor Greene and others want to oppose aid to Ukraine or the FISA bill, they can vote against it. That’s how democracy works.” She then spoke directly to Greene: “Get over yourself.”

House Republicans have been speaking out against her as well. Rep. Marc Molinaro (R-NY) called Greene’s efforts “a mistake and an absurdity.”

“To think that one of our Republican colleagues would call for his ouster right now — it’s really, it’s abhorrent to me, and I oppose it,” said Rep. Clay Higgins (R-LA), according to The Hill.

Rep. Dusty Johnson (R-SD) said if Greene were to succeed, whoever replaced Johnson would certainly be less conservative. “And for people like me who want to secure conservative victories, that would be a tragedy. It would be disruptive to our nation and it would set back the cause for those of us who are interested in reducing the size, scope and intrusion of government.”

Earlier this month, Rep. Bob Good (R-VA) delivered perhaps the most scathing indictment of Greene’s actions, telling CNN, “Nobody cares what Marjorie Taylor Greene says or thinks. And she’s a one-man show, she’s grandstanding and she wants attention.”

But Greene remains defiant. Just yesterday, she said that Johnson “FULLY FUNDED the DOJ that is prosecuting J6 defendants and President Trump!!!” when Johnson posted a message in support of the January 6 insurrectionists.

“Stop lying and pandering to these poor people,” she told Johnson. “Resign!”

You FULLY FUNDED the DOJ that is prosecuting J6 defendants and President Trump!!!

You could have defunded these political prosecutions in your omnibus, fired US attorney Matthew Graves, fired Jack Smith, and demanded an end to this.

You could pass my bill the Matthew Perna Act… https://t.co/hOGGS6EWFB
