Madonna partners with LGBTQ+ group before tonight’s concert

When Madonna’s Celebration Tour hits Minneapolis/St. Paul tonight, queer youth might be celebrating the most. The pop icon has partnered with Twin Cities Pride to raise funds and items for their Rainbow Wardrobe program.

Organizers will be working the door at the concert, accepting donations of clothing and personal care items to stock the pantry aimed at helping in-need community members. Kiosks around the arena will also sport a QR code that allows fans to donate directly to the group.

She said she told the audience about losing her friends so they would realize how lucky they are to be alive.

Madonna has partnered with LGBTQ+ organizations at every stop on her tour, which was delayed last year when the singer was hospitalized for a bacterial infection. She has a long history of supporting LGBTQ+ and HIV organizations.

“Over the years, Madonna has been an unwavering ally to the LGBTQ community, and this is a perfect example of it,” Andi Otto, Twin Cities Pride executive director, told the Star Tribune. “To have her acknowledge the needs of our community in this way means the world to us.”

The Rainbow Wardrobe primarily helps queer youth, although it is open to any member of the community in need. Many of the young people are homeless.

Personal care items like toothbrushes, deodorant, and period care products are among the most requested. Financial donations are used to buy those products.

Gender-affirming clothing is also welcomed. Otto says that includes “anything that makes you feel comfortable in your own body.”
