Lil Nas X shares X-rated response to Grammys snub after lighting up stage with epic performance

Lil Nas X announced he wanted to “be slutted out” after failing to win a Grammy for any of his five nominations on Sunday night (3 April).

He made the claim after thrilling the Grammys audience with a medley performance of tracks from his album Montero.

After taking to the stage in a glittering cape for “Dead Right Now”, angry tweets slating his “Montero (Call Me By Your Name)” video flashed up on the giant screen.

Lil Nas X, by now dressed in a crop top, then launched into the track that cemented him as pop’s brightest star, in what was – by his standards – a relatively PG-13 performance.

After “Montero” came one last costume change for “Industry Baby”, with Jack Harlow joining the singer-rapper on stage.

Lil Nas X may have given one of the night’s biggest performances, but he was disappointed to leave the Grammys without any new trophies.

The “Old Town Road” rapper had been joking with fans ahead of the event: “If i don’t leave with Grammys tomorrow i will be formally turning in my resignation letter to the illuminati.”

He then added: “I’m either gonna win a Grammy, go to a club, get drunk, and have sex with a random stranger or lose each Grammy, go to a club, get drunk, and have sex with a random stranger.”

When the ceremony ended without a single win for the hitmaker, he wrote: “Can’t believe i lost all my Grammys. I am now no longer gay!”

Not long after, he added: “I change my mind i want to be slutted out tonight.”

In true form, the playful musician even turned his Grammys loss into a new track as he sang about the snub in a clip shared on Instagram.

While he might have failed to win any gongs, he did light up the red carpet in a pearl-and-crystal covered white Balmain two-piece set.

It was a more successful night for other LGBT+ artists.

Country singers Brothers Osborne bagged their first Grammy for Best Country Duo/Group Performance. The pair landed the award for their song, “Younger Me”, which was written shortly after TJ Osborne came out publicly in 2021.

Elsewhere, Tyler, the Creator won his second Grammy for Best Rap Album with “Call Me If You Get Lost” and Lady Gaga’s duet album with Tony Bennett, Love for Sale, was named Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album.

St Vincent won the award for Best Alternative Music Album with Daddy’s Home while Olivia Rodrigo took home three awards including Best New Artist, Best Pop Vocal Performance and Best Pop Vocal Album.

The night also saw the likes of Gaga, Brandi Carlile and Ben Platt perform on stage.
