The icon Laverne Cox set social media ablaze after a video re-emerged of her alluding to closeted gay rappers.

The 2019 TMZ video begins with an interviewer asking Laverne Cox and Pose star Angelica Ross what they think about Lil Nas X coming out.

Both women had nothing but praise and love for the rapper.

“We love him,” Ross said. Cox nodded and shared in Ross’ sentiment, adding: “Good for him.”

Cox didn’t stop there however.

“I think it’s amazing in hip-hop that we are having this moment,” she continued, adding slyly: “I think more guys in who are gay in hip-hop should come out,” to which Ross let out a raucous laugh.

The interviewer followed up with the question: “You think there’s more?”, prompting Cox to deadpan a simple: “Girl.”

Three years on, one Twitter user posted a throwback to the moment, dubbing Cox’s simple one word allusion “queer history.”

The post now has more than 200,000 likes and caught the attention of Laverne Cox herself, who reiterated her point.

Lil Nas X came out during Pride Month 2019 and has gone on to become one of the most prominent gay artists in the world.

He is one of a small number of openly queer rappers in the music industry, along with the likes of Saucy Santana and Chika.

Despite his incredible success, Lil Nas X is vocal about the barriers he faces as a gay man.

Recently the “Industry Baby” rapper expressed frustration at not being nominated for a BET Award for the second year in a row.

Lil Nas X even teased a scathing diss track aimed at the award show that said the words “f**k BET” repeatedly.
