John Barrowman describes ‘carnage’ after being caught up in Berlin car crash that’s left one dead

British actor John Barrowman has said he is “OK” after being caught up in a horrifying car crash that killed one person in Berlin, Germany.

At least 30 other people were injured when a vehicle ploughed into a crowd of people in a popular shopping district on Wednesday morning (8 June), the authorities said.

The Berlin fire brigade was alerted to the incident at 10.30am. Berlin’s police force, Polizei Berlin, tweeted: “A man is said to have driven into a group of people.

“It is not yet known whether it was an accident or intentional action.”

The alleged male driver was detained at the scene, police added.

Barrowman, 55, said in a series of Twitter videos that he was forced to hide behind a tree as he described the horror of seeing a “dead body” lying on the road in Kurfürstendamm.

“We were in a store and then we came out and saw all the carnage,” he said in one video, adding he heard a “bang and crash”.

“It’s really pretty bad, guys,” he said, adding that he was sitting behind a tree “just in case anything else happens” and has since gone back to his hotel.

“There’s a lot of police, there’s a dead body in the middle of the road, and over here, there’s all the emergency services that are trying to help victims and people.

“There’s a lot of people walking with limps and injuries.”

The Doctor Who star said, only feet away from a restaurant he dinned in the night before, a car barrelled down the boulevard and spiralled onto the pavement.

“It came back to the pavement and gone through a bunch of people,” he said, adding the vehicle crashed into a storefront.

“This is bad, this is serious, really bad,” John Barrowman continued, “there’s multiple fatalities, hundreds of emergency services in the area and blocking … city block after city block off.”

The incident took place in and by the scene of a horrifying terrorist attack which saw a tractor-trailer careened into a crowd of people in a Christmas market in 2016, killing 12 people.
