I See Me and Meryl Streep: is probably the nearest the multi-Oscar Winner (and gay icon) will ever get to the London stage

Australian actor/comedian Alexandra Keddie‘s new show is one of those that grab your attention straight away,  Especially if you are a gay man.  And the good news is that its making its London debut in a special 10th-anniversary production at The Other Palace.  I SEE ME & MERYL STREET is a journey through the life of Meryl Streep told through the eyes of her biggest fan, a misfit, also named Meryl, who finally gets to live out her fantasy of being loved and adored.

Ms Streep (we would never dare call her Meryl ) has won three Academy Awards, two BAFTA Awards, 9 Golden Globe Awards, four Emmy Awards, and two Screen Actors Guild Awards as well as nominations for 7 Grammy Awards and a Tony Award.  But what we think, in our eyes, is equally important is when she was presented with the prestigious award  HRC Ally for Equality Award

She has played gay on screen  (remember the big kiss she gavce Alison Janney in The Hours) but  off-screen, Ms Streep has taken up the advancement of gay rights as a personal cause. She has described her multiple roles in Mike Nichols’ adaptation of the groundbreaking Tony Kushner play Angels in America (she played everything from accused spy Ethel Rosenberg to a male rabbi in the 2003 HBO miniseries) as among the most important work of her career for the way it humanized the AIDS crisis.

BUT back to Alexandra Keddie’s show …….in this at school, Meryl is made fun of and ridiculed but in this safe space she gets to shine and do all her favourite Streep impressions, from A Cry in the Dark to Out of Africa to The Devil Wears Prada to The Iron Lady and everything in between. With more props and costumes than Meryl Streep has Oscar nominations, Keddie whips through iconic impersonations and songs from Into the Woods, Ray Charles, Death Becomes Her, Mother Courage and of course Mamma Mia. The whole show is a hilarious love letter to awkward youth and the beauty of big dreams. “I See Me & Meryl Streep is an embarrassingly true story of my teenage awkwardness and desperate love for Meryl Streep. Life can weigh you down, and tapping into that teenage energy can help us feel like anything is possibmale

From back home in Austarlia. Alexandra told  QUEERGURU “I can’t wait for London audiences to join me for a ridiculous campy romp of an hour to have a good laugh and maybe shed a cathartic single tear (just like Meryl),”

Nor can we .  The show will be playing  for JUST ONE WEEK ONLY at The Other Place in London from April 29th – May 4th …… and we know it will sell out

Final word is frm AUSSIE THEATRE “Keddie [is a] sublime mimic of Streep. It’s a tough gig taking on one of the greatest female actors in the world but Keddie does an impressive job.” –
