Halsey has won a battle with their music label after being told to fake a viral moment if they wanted to release new music.

Halsey’s label, Capitol Records, faced backlash after the singer posted a TikTok video on 22 May claiming it would not release her new music until she “faked” a viral moment on the app.

They let fans in on the behind-the-scenes mechanisms of the modern music industry, saying: “Everything is marketing and they are doing this to every artist these days. I just want to release music, man and I deserve better tbh. I’m tired.”

Now, Capitol Records has announced it will release Halsey’s new song, “So Good”, on 9 June, with a music video coming on 10 June.

“Halsey we love you and we are here to support you,” it wrote on Twitter on Tuesday (31 May).

It added: “We are an artist first company that encourages open dialogue. We have nothing but a desire to help each one of our artists succeed and hope that we can continue to have these critical conversations.”

Halsey celebrated her victory, tweeting: “I didn’t expect so much conversation about this record, all I know is that I wanted you to hear it and now you can. ‘So Good’, song on June 9th and the video the next day. Endy gave me my flowers.”

They added photos of their 10-month-old son Ender with a bouquet of flowers.
