Gay Democrat slams Trumpers who want him “arrested” for helping prosecute J6 insurrectionists

Out gay congressional candidate Will Rollins called out the GOP for turning against its principles because of Donald Trump as online conservatives call for him to be arrested for helping with the prosecutions of January 6 insurrectionists.

“Just because I went after the folks – helped my colleagues in D.C. go after the folks who assaulted the U.S. Capitol, I should be thrown in prison?” he told MeidasTouch journalist Ben Meiselas. “This is the irony of what’s happened to this party. This is an assault that left five cops dead. This is a party that used to claim to be the party of law and order.”

“When your congressional representative cares more about their own pockets than yours,” Rollins says, “you can’t trust them.”

He said that he used to tell the Republicans he knows that “your party used to stand for four basic principles, right? Law and order, personal accountability, the rule of law, and hawkishness on Russia. It stands for none of those principles anymore as a result of one person.”

“I think if you’ve fallen in a trap where you are more likely to support one human being over your own country, over your own fellow Americans in any context just because the guy tells you to do something,” Rollins continued, “you’ve gotta take a hard look in the mirror and ask yourself, ‘How far can this possibly go? Am I willing to throw everything out in service of the former host of the Celebrity Apprentice?”

Rollins, a former federal prosecutor, is running in California’s 41st Congressional District, which includes Riverside County and large parts of Palm Springs.

He ran in 2022 against far-right and anti-LGBTQ+ Rep. Ken Calvert (R-CA). Rollins lost with 47.7% of the vote. He’s running again in the same district, which supported President Joe Biden over Donald Trump 62%-36% in 2020.
