Florida’s DeSantis loses another legal skirmish with Drag Shows : its a fight that he just cannot win !

Queerguru has always been suspicious of Ron DeSantis’ (the current Governor of Florida) obsession with the LGBTQA+ community and especially with drag queens.  Where we are sitting, it seems like an unhealthy combination. of rampant homophobia and a badly judged attempt to outdo Trump when it comes to public bullying. Ahead of his ill-fated presidential campaign, DeSantis invested quite a bit of time expressing his contempt for drag shows, so it didn’t come as much of a surprise a couple of years ago when the Florida Republican signed a measure empowering the state to penalize businesses that allow minors to attend drag performances.

However, soon after, a federal court blocked the state from enforcing the anti-drag law, concluding that Florida already had laws against obscene performances. “Rather, this statute is specifically designed to suppress the speech of drag queen performers,” U.S. District Court Judge Gregory A. Presnell wrote.

How can we describe De Santis’s reaction to this politely?  It really pissed him off,  and had him screaming in the media that the injunction was ‘dead wrong’, and he vowed to appeal it.  He did, and he lost again.  Now he must be hopping mad as that didn’t turn out to well for him either, as a Federal Appeals court has upheld a preliminary injunction blocking a 2023 Florida law aimed at preventing children from attending drag shows

DeSantis is known to be a really sore loser so only time will tell whether he bothers to take his chances with yet another appeal, but let’s not forget that he has already tried once (and failed) to get the U.S. Supreme Court to undo the district court’s injunction.    The brilliiant Ana Navarro sums it up so beautifully…
