First glimpse of SPIKE LEE’s latest movie ‘HIGHEST TO LOWEST that just premiered at Cannes Film Festival

Spike Lee is not the most prolific of filmmakers,  his last one was Da 5 Bloods some five years ago, so any new release is highly anticipated and a welcome addition to our viewing choices this month.  Lee’s very stylistic  films have examined race relations, colorism in the black community, the role of media in contemporary life, urban crime and poverty, and other political issues. We can expect that in this latest crime thriller Highest 2 Lowest which is the 5th time he has worked with Academy Award Winner Denzil Washington.

Set in New York in the 2020s, when a company can be brought down just as easily by online wrath just as fast as a disastrous financial move.  Very shortly, Washington’s character must choose between the two ….. and the drama begins. 

Highest 2 Lowest, which also stars the fabulous Jeffrey Wright and some new actress called Ice Spice  (NO . she is nothing to do with that ubiquitous Girl Band)  had its World Premiere at the Cannes Film Festival and was met with some mixed reviews.  But itis  scheduled be released theatrically in the United States by A24 on August 15, before it will be made available on Apple TV+ on September 5, so we can make our own minds up.
