Dylan Mulvaney can’t wait for her first kiss since transitioning

Trans influencer Dylan Mulvaney is opening up about dating as a trans woman. The TikTok star has been documenting her experience as a trans woman since last March, which has included appearances on the Grammy red carpet, speaking with President Joe Biden at the White House, and picking up the Groundbreaker Award at the recent Queerties.

But with a week to go until her March 13 variety show at The Rainbow Room in New York celebrating one year since she came out as trans, Mulvaney told People Magazine that despite all her accomplishments, dating hasn’t gotten any easier.

People on social media accused her of “womanface” for living her life authentically.

“I’m getting a little impatient because, especially when you’re feeling yourself and even looking at that Grammys picture, I’m like, that’s somebody who should not be single,” she said. Mulvaney made headlines appearing on the Grammys red carpet last month looking stunning in a Christian Siriano gown. “But then you’re like, wait, why is no one in the DMs?”

She explained that she feels like she now has the opportunity to make up for past romantic disappointments. “I very much feel like I get a do-over as far as some of those negative experiences that I have had romantically,” she said. “And I want to do it right this time.”

Mulvaney, who identifies as queer and uses she/they pronouns, also shared what she’s looking for in a romantic partner.

“I really want somebody to make me laugh because so much of starting to succeed and have these great things come has been a little serious at times, having to put this businesswoman hat on,” she said. “But I think once I do meet that person that can add some levity, add some lightness back to my life and I know that I can make them laugh in the same way, that is going to be chef’s kiss.”

At last week’s Queerties, Mulvaney spoke about the influence she wants to have given her platform of over 12 million followers on Instagram and TikTok.

“If I can influence somebody to smile or to be a little bit closer to their true self or to go buy the Trader Joe’s gnocchi, then it’s a win in my book. It’s all worth it — even the hate, which I just respond to with trans joy,” she said. “And maybe that’s what’s really groundbreaking is trans joy, and not in the way that it’s new because trans joy always existed, but I think trans joy in the hellscape that is 2023 is groundbreaking.”
