Donald Trump claims babies are being “executed after birth” in anti-abortion speech filled with lies

In a recent video statement, Donald Trump bragged about being the one to instigate the Supreme Court’s overturning of Roe v. Wade, a decision that decimated reproductive rights across the country. Before expressing his viewpoint that abortion laws should now be up to the states, he made several wildly false claims, including that Democrats support abortion up to birth and somehow, even after birth.

“It must be remembered that the Democrats are the radical ones on this position because they support abortion up to and even beyond the ninth month,” Trump lied. “The concept of having an abortion in the later months and even execution after birth – and that’s exactly what it is. The baby is born, the baby is executed after birth is unacceptable and almost everyone agrees with that.”

Fighting for equal rights is a threat to the Almighty.

Extreme Republicans continue to push the false notion of “full-term” abortion as a way to justify their vehement stance against reproductive rights, despite the fact that most of America supports them.

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) has been especially vocal, claiming the recent federal spending bill funds “full-term abortion clinics.”

Full-term abortions aren’t a thing that happens, and the federal government is banned from funding abortion due to the Hyde Amendment. She has likely been referring to funding for reproductive health clinics. That funding, however, can’t be used for abortions, but rather for other health care that those clinics provide.

Greene has recently been peddling conspiracy theories long held by anti-abortion activists. “Abortion providers are literally ripping the hearts, kidneys, and brain tissue out of babies born alive and without anesthesia to perform sick experiments on them,” Greene recently wrote on X. This does not happen, and as one social media user pointed out, “She is describing murder.”

Murder, of course, is also what Trump is describing when he claims doctors are executing babies after they’re born.

Trump said in his statement that he is “proudly the person responsible” for ending Roe v. Wade (made possible through his appointment of right-wing Supreme Court justices) and claimed “all legal scholars – both sides – wanted and in fact, demanded” the landmark decision be overturned. This is far from the truth. The Pew Research Center says 62% of adults in the United States believe abortion should be legal in all or most cases, and of course, there are many legal scholars who support reproductive rights.

Trump made it clear in his speech he would not commit to signing a federal abortion ban if elected president and instead wants to leave the laws up to the states. “At the end of the day this is all about the will of the people,” he claimed before thanking the Supreme Court justices that overturned Roe. He then claimed, “we are a failing nation” and implied everyone must vote for him to fix that.
