Despite the Despot President and the rampantly homophobic Governor ITS STILL GOOD TO BE GAY IN FLORIDA

If there ever was a time when we needed to come together as a queer community in Florida its NOW!   With the Despot President holed up in his glitzy ‘trailer’ home in the midst of the State’s Senior Citizens Community and whose rampant homophobia is matched by the State’s incumbant Governer, we need to be both united and vocal. During these last 100 days it’s been nigh on impossible to find one iota of good news and making it more difficult day by day for keeping our spirits up and maintaining some sort of faith in humanity.  This is where being part of the LGBTQ community in Florida  (which incidentally is the 4th largest  in the US)  is so fabulous as this past weekend we made South Foruida as gay as we could 

In party town South Beach an estimated 170,00 turned up for the 17th Miami Beach Pride and Festival,  and how can we put it nicely …..’a good time was had by all‘….  Except probably the killjoy Mayor who recently tried to close down the queer-owned indie cinemas because they were screening an Oscar Winning movie that ‘offended his sensibility.  He lost that battle thanks to the community standing up against him and this was a crucial victory as Mayor Miener was using a Trump tactic: i.e. do as I say OR i will cancel your funding.

As well as partying the day and night away this weekend, some 45 mins north in Fort Lauderdale there was an equally impressive crowd for the 20th AIDS Walk and Music Festival.  This 5K walk is not just a major fundraiser (they made almost $2Million!!) but ist a time for our community to come together top remember all those we lost in past and to give hope to all in the futures.  We desperately hope that the organisers AHF will be able to distribute the funds to to much needed organisations and charities as usual  AND NOT have to try and plug the gaps in federal funding that Trump erratically threatens to cancel every day
