Congresswoman wants police to check Marjorie Taylor Greene’s mental health after gun threat

Rep. Haley Stevens (D-MI) called for Capitol Police to investigate Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) after the “QAnon rep” said that conservatives should use guns to “defend ourselves” from Democrats who support vaccinations and gun control.

“I am concerned about the mental health of my colleague from Georgia and would like ⁦@CapitolPolice⁩ to address her dangerous threats in my workplace,” Stevens tweeted yesterday.

“Just as we would in any school or job site, we cannot let calls for gun violence go unchecked.”

Stevens was referring to comments made by Greene while on Sebastian Gorka’s podcast America First earlier this week, where she said that she “hate[s] to use this language, but Democrats, they’re exactly- they’re doing exactly what our Founders talked about when they gave us the precious rights that we have.”

She was talking specifically about Georgia Democratic gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams, who said in a speech that she supports vaccination against COVID-19.

“The next thing she talked about was grabbing people’s guns,” Greene said. “She hates Georgia’s Second Amendment rights. She wants to stop constitutional carry.”

“Ultimately, the truth is it’s our Second Amendment rights, our right to bear arms, that protects Americans and gives us the ability to defend ourselves from a tyrannical government,” she said.

Abrams has not commented on Greene’s statements, but other Democrats have said that Greene – who regularly defies the rules at the Capitol – is effectively calling for violence against her political adversaries.

“If suggesting ‘Second Amendment Rights Should Be Used Against Democrats’ doesn’t immediately compel ⁦[House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA)]⁩ to take disciplinary action, I suggest Congress take action against both of them,” tweeted Rep. Dean Phillips (D-MN). “This madness must be addressed or violence will ensue.”
