Canadian TV series GET HOOKED from OUTtv ‘is not your dad’s fishing show

The byline for this new Canadian TV series GET HOOKED is ‘its not your dad’s  fishing show‘ and it very bravely suggests that its for so many other people, even queer ones that are the ‘stars’ of the series. Each of the six episodes starts with the same  introduction

We are four best friends who grew up in small towns where its not always easy being queer.” There is  Fay an actor, Esther a Creative Director,  Vic a Designer and  Emma also a designer.  “Fishing is our safe space together . We don’t often see a lot of women fishing ; it makes you wonder who else has not been included. So when we got a chance to go to Ontario Canada to fish with some amazing people : we packed our bags for a cozy cabin in the woods. We couldn’t pass up the chance ot get hooked”

Each episode they meet up with a local fishing expert and get to try their hands at fly-fishing, salmon fishing.kayak fishing etc,  and the four girls are in their absolute element. Their good spirits, humor and camaraderie are infectious, but even so try as I did (and I did) I just couldn’t share their excitable passion for the actual fishing.  I’m probably in a minority of one, but there’s a very gay part of me who believes  that this, and other similar pastimes (like camping ) are just not in my genes 

 

Get Hooked premieres Monday, March 17 on AMI+ (Canada), OUTtv.com (Canada, USA, Australia, New Zealand), and OUTflix.com (UK, Ireland, and Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Finland via Allente).
