Actor Anne Heche is not expected to survive after a car crash left her with a severe brain injury, her family has said

The Cedar Rapids and I Know What You Did Last Summer star, 53, was taken to hospital last Friday (5 August) after she crashed her car into a home in LA, which then caught fire.

The Los Angeles Fire Department confirmed to media that the crash caused a “heavy fire”, adding that its crews attended the scene to put it out.

According to the BBC, Anne Heche sustained is being kept on life support but is not expected to recover.

Heche’s family said in a statement to PA: “We want to thank everyone for their kind wishes and prayers for Anne’s recovery and thank the dedicated staff and wonderful nurses.

“Unfortunately, due to her accident, Anne Heche suffered a severe anoxic brain injury and remains in a coma, in critical condition. She is not expected to survive.

“It has long been her choice to donate her organs and she is being kept on life support to determine if any are viable.

“Anne had a huge heart and touched everyone she met with her generous spirit.

The Los Angeles Police Department told the PA news agency that the incident is being investigated as a felony driving under the influence (DUI) traffic collision.

Ellen DeGeneres, Heche’s former partner, said when asked about the actor’s condition on Wednesday (10 August) by a photographer: “I don’t want anyone to be hurt”.

Entertainment Tonight added that DeGeneres claimed the pair are “not in touch with each other, so I wouldn’t know”.
