Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez slams Republican fixation on LGBT+ people as ‘strange sexual frustration’

Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has said Republicans ‘need therapy’ for the ‘fixation’ with women, LGBT+ people and AOC herself.

AOC was responding to a tweet from former Trump adviser Steve Cortes, who took bizarre umbrage with the New York representative and her partner holidaying in Florida with drinks.

He tweeted an image of the couple with the caption: “1. If Leftists like AOC actually thought mandates and masking worked, they wouldn’t be frolicking in free FL. 2. Her guy is showing his gross pale male feet in public (not at a pool/beach) with hideous sandals. O for 2…”

In response, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez accused Cortes of “projecting [his] sexual frustrations onto [her] boyfriend’s feet”, before labelling the former Trump adviser a “creepy weirdo”.

“It’s starting to get old ignoring the very obvious, strange and deranged sexual frustrations that underpin the Republican fixation on me, women and LGBT+ people in general,” she said in her tweets.

“These people clearly need therapy, won’t do it, and use politics as their outlet instead. It’s really weird.”

If Republicans are mad they can’t date me they can just say that instead of projecting their sexual frustrations onto my boyfriend’s feet.

Ya creepy weirdos https://t.co/Z7bZCgXpWJ

The Republican Party has come under fire for its attacks on LGBT+ rights throughout the country. Republican congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene has long been known for her rampant transphobia and homophobia, and has now been banned from Twitter.

Greene is not a rarity in her party: a Gallup poll from 2014 showed only 30 per cent of Republican voters in support of same-sex marriage, despite it being legalised by the Supreme Court the year before. Since then, the party has made significant attempts to bring LGBT+ voters on board and modernise.

Republican National Committee chair, Ronna McDaniel, sent out a tweet to mark the beginning of Pride Month 2021.

“Happy Pride Month!” she wrote, “GOP is proud to have doubled our LGBTQ support over the last 4 years, and we will continue to grow our big tent by supporting measures that promote fairness and balance protections for LGBTQ Americans and those with deeply held religious beliefs.”

The message garnered attacks from Democrats and Republicans alike, accusing the party of both hypocrisy and treachery.
