Malaysia’s Capital A, the holding company formerly known as AirAsia Group, plans to expand its ride hailing platform on its e-commerce platform “Super App” to the Philippines and Indonesia by the third quarter this year, The Philippine Star reported.

The ride hailing platform under the “airasia ride” brand was first launched in Malaysia in August last year as part of Capital A’s digital transformation efforts amid the Covid-19 pandemic. So far, it has reached one million completed rides, with around 500,000 bookings processed during the first quarter 2022, Amanda Woo, CEO of airasia Super App, said

The new ride hailing platform has expanded to ten cities across Malaysia in just eight months of operation, Woo noted. In the second quarter, the service will be introduced in Thailand and in Indonesia and the Philippines in the following quarter.

Broad variety of e-commerce services

The airasia Super App is already operating its various e-commerce services, which include online shopping, travel bookings, food and parcel delivery services, financial and health services, on-demand education and community chats, in Malaysia, the Philippines, Indonesia, Singapore and Thailand, banking on the region’s strong e-commerce market.

“This year commenced with numerous positive developments in our key ASEAN countries and supporting campaigns launched by airasia Super App gave impetus to the travel, tourism and the e-commerce markets,” Woo said.

“We are enthusiastic about the positive results and remain confident in the outlook where we see total users will continue to grow on the back of the airline [industry] recovery, more product launches along with continued expansion in more ASEAN cities,” she added.
